The Shepherd Poem by Phil de Lange

The Shepherd

On and on, one by one, on and on they go.

Blindly following their brother,
futile friendships to one another.
Accepted mystery but a path,
in line, a step from the Shepherd’s wrath.

On and on and on, two by two, on they go.

Almighty canine ravaging the rebels,
snapping, at the ignorance of woolen fables.
Lawful barking, commanded biting,
communion of tradition, contempt and fighting.

On and on, one by one, on and on they go.

A frightened lamb welcomed from the rain;
shivers of hope, heard in ignorant bleats of pain,
secure is the flock, all timid and meek.
secure is the flock, the flock of the weak.

On and on and on, three by three, on they go.

Holy Shepherd, weary and wise;
Gleeful contempt, contempt in his prize.
Success for the flock, knowing not what they seek,
success for the flock, the flock of the weak.

On and on they go…
