The Siren - Part 1 Poem by Faruzan Anwar

The Siren - Part 1

Long ago, in a time beyond recall
There once lived a siren
Seductions’ enthrall
In a land vast and fruitful
She ruled with great might
Oblivious in her grandeur
To the lowly peasants’ plight
Beautiful and terrible
Aloof in her golden bower
A monarch with the skill
To make man and monster cower
Yet one who could enthrall
The wry and fickle hearts of men
And with the heinous lustfulness of passion
Lure them captive to her den
Long did she rule, terrible grew her might
And black was her cold heart
Blacker than ruthless night
Yet she knew little peace
In her desire to possess all
Never ceasing in her endeavor
To entice dynasties to their fall
But in all her power
In its majestic lieu
A reality remained dormant
But omnipotent and true
She was a human
Conceived in mortal womb
And one fateful day time
Would deliver her to her tomb
