The Sky Is Vast Enough Poem by Ananta Madhavan

The Sky Is Vast Enough

The sky has room enough for countless globes and globules,
Flying debris, comets, meteorites and shards of rock
From ores never to be mined by robots or Aliens.

Early morning I sniffed the cooler air and looked skyward.
I saw the truncate moon high above me, tardy this time
At break of day, the sun would rise in barely two minutes.
Astronomy and Space-Time allow such oddities.

At six o'clock precisely, with the street still empty
And early strollers still sipping tea or coffee to the lees,
I am amazed by the seldom seen phenomenon
Of sun and gibbous moon sharing the sky.

At this phase the moon resplendent
Recalled the radiance of its full visage.
Sunlight will flood the sky in minutes
And lunar translucence will grow too pale,
Making our sole satellite near transparent,
Like a jewel facet wrapped in tissue paper.

Life is limitless, like the sky. There is space enough
For you and me.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I used a phrase by Alfred Tennyson in his famous poem, 'Ulysses':
'I shall drink Life to the lees', in a daily context. It is a poem
I like to re-read occasionally.
Fascinating to find out about the phases of the moon. So much to learn.
