The slimy toad with its slithering tongue
Long and thin like a deadly gun
Strikes, rolls, captures its pray
That croaking creature has food today.
Mayfly on board, the toad reacts
Wings tickle its flesh, the tongue retracts
Slowly devoured by the hungry toad's jaws
Doomed mayfly, no time to pause.
Mayfly dead, before seed was sowed
Digested by the slimy toad
Its day on earth not quite complete
No time at all a wife to meet.
A short time before, it did never exist
Hatched, born, but never been kissed
A fitting meal for that slimy beast
Life extinct but a dinner at least.
