The Snowdrop Poem by bryan wallace

The Snowdrop

January brings the frost and snow they say.
Temperatures dip and pavements slippery underfoot.
New Year's Resolutions planned exercise regimes
Come to a shuddering halt, as we baulk
At the thought of braving ice, rain wind and snow.
Will this bleak winter weather never end we ask ourselves
As we hibernate at the fireside's warming glow.
The future seems cold and bleak for now
In the never-ending onslaught of the Arctic blast.

But perhaps there's none so blind as those
Who cannot see through tightly shut eyes.
A new year's began again, winter's at it's peak,
The Winter Solstice past and gone for now.
The sun, that great giver of new life and hope
Arcs higher in the sky with each passing day.
The nights they are shortening, the days,
They are lengthening by minutes day by day.

Soon the humble but pretty virgin-white snowdrop -
That early harbinger of new life, hope and springtime,
Shall make a bid for freedom from winter's darkness.
Signalling new life, new hope and new growth.
Our task is to make sure that we are ready -
To bud, to grow and to bloom with it.
