The Story Poem by Imaanah Saleem

The Story

Can you tell me the story again from your perspective?

My side's a little fuzzy,
And a bit selective.

I tend to favor everything I did—
Like it was right—
Convinced that it was not what you deserved.

Well what you deserved might not in fact have been,
What I did,
Perhaps you needed time to take it in,
Let it sit,
To grasp it,
All of it,
The very thought of you and me.

Right now that seems so obvious;
Whereas before I could not see,

It would be nice to hear the story from your perspective.

To finally learn the reason I was rejected.

But after countless days of wondering why

I figure it's time I put my thoughts of you aside.
