The Story Of My Life Poem by Ronni Scott

The Story Of My Life

Rating: 5.0

Darkness overpowers light, spilling around its edges
Coffee flowing from an inattentive cup
It settles and pools over this, which is my world

Fearful stars have fled the night sky
Black velvet dusted clean of sprinkled salt
Navigation becomes a blind mans task

This journey, far from finished
Was begun years ago by a child applauded on his behind
Congratulated for a successful birth

Ultimately I make this trek alone, though I collide with fellow wanderers
Who, from time to time, share my days and my dreams
Relying on one another, hoping somehow that the other knows the way

If ever I was issued a map, I burned it - long ago
To melt the icicles that grew at the ends of my arms
Throbbing fingers appeared in their stead

A light from within attempts to guide and offers direction
Through the inkwell into which I have delved
Accompanied by a voice that whispers
' ~ Let go... ~ Be free... ~ Follow me '
And so I follow

Sailors once led the way, dashing their ships and dreams
Against stone outcroppings, chasing Siren songs
I pray that this is not my fate - The scene changes

I stand now upon a darkened stage, holding an unfinished script
The director is mute, and the audience, as am I
Appears lost and disinterested - My attention returns to the title

' The Story Of My Life ' - Oh yes, I remember now
I fire a lantern, retrieve my instrument from the floor and begin again
Picking up the pieces of fragmented thought that my falling pen had broken

The story of my life?

Indeed

'The story of my life, indeed'. I loved this, simply beautiful and absolutely touching. On a stage with an unfinished script... ahhh. Such is life.
