The Streets I Once Knew Poem by Tenzin Choten Khampa

The Streets I Once Knew

She walks through a bazaar of candles,
through the hustling,
the bustling,
the voices of local sellers.
Music rises,
birds answer,
and the streets
carry their own kind of song.
But she is not only walking through the bazaar.
She is walking through childhood.
Past the streets
that once knew her footsteps,
past the stationery shop
that was once her favourite,
along the road
from home to school
up the mountain,
down the mountain,
with friends beside her,
gossiping about everything,
as if their conversations
would last for eternity.
And for a moment,
the streets are not streets anymore.
They are memories.
