The storm came roaring through my life,
With thunder loud and winds unkind;
It tore the branches from my tree,
And left my weary heart behind.
I sat among the shattered leaves,
Where shadows stretched like endless night;
Yet in the silence, faint and small,
I felt a flicker of soft light.
The river broke, yet still it flowed,
Through jagged rocks and fallen trees;
It taught me how to bend, not break,
To move with force yet find my ease.
The sun returned, though skies were gray,
And touched the ruins with gentle flame;
I rose with slow, unsteady steps,
Yet rose, and nothing felt the same.
For every loss and bitter tear
Had carved a place within my chest;
A quiet strength, a patient voice,
That whispered: "Rise, and do your best."
So though the storms will come again,
And nights may stretch with hollow cries,
I carry in my steadfast heart
The courage no despair can prise.
