The Sweet Earth Poem by Apu Mondal

The Sweet Earth

What is sweeter than this soil
Giving us the coal and oil
Growing the sweetest flowers
Rejoicing in the summer showers

Showing us how short life is
The mortal in his grave lies
Like child clinging to mother
Without worries, no bother

Yet immortal roles are played
History and culture replayed
Great works of literature and art
Actors and warriors play a part

What more can be sweeter
Having honey and margosa bitter
Give us emotions and feelings
For God's sake, stop the killings
