Two Trees
Within a dark and distant wood, two lovely trees together stood,
And one toward the other leant to sing a windy, soft lament.
While weeping willow wept her tears, the pine tree stood erect with fear,
For nature had ordained with fate, that he remain forever, straight.
To bend his boughs would snap him dead, so weeping willow hung her head
In painful knowledge, there to grieve, that he would never touch her leaves.
And to this day the willow cries, imploring him with windy sighs,
But he will neither give, nor bend-was never fashioned to this end.
