The Three Little Birds - Poem by Alyssa Marquardt

What if things were never how I planned?
What if I never own my own land?
What if I never own fame?
What if I lose the game?

I cry out to the skies.
And three little birds smile at my cries.
Little girl,
You have not yet seen the world.

Tears hug my ink,
But I cannot sink.
These thoughts in my head
are the ones I must ignore.
The ones that leave me
tired and sore.

Three little birds
Find their way to my bed.
Whispering in my ear-
Their words ease the thoughts in my head.

I'm sick-
I must be fixed.
I'm sick-
I must be fixed.

Perfection is a bitch I hate.
Protection is what I await.
Protection is what I hide from.

I am insane,
These thoughts are clogging my heart and brain.
I want to get through this life on my own,
But the three little birds won't let that feeling last.
They come beside my bed
and all they do is laugh.
