The Touch Fades Poem by BASAB CHAUDHURI

The Touch Fades

Have you ever felt
that the hand that held you
is slowly relaxing,
that someone is going away?

Like a wave that rose far in the ocean,
drenched you head to toe,
then moved toward the shore—
lost forever, no more.

Clouds give the same feeling,
with the hope they will fall
as rain—
then sail far, far away,
with eyes looking at the distance.

This is what life is about:
you touch and then fall back,
as the touch that once held you
leaves you far behind,
in distress, undefined.
