The Train Now Standing At Platform 1 Poem by Howard Pipe

The Train Now Standing At Platform 1

All eyes on the departures screen
on the hour and in between,
weary folk with bags in tow
pulling wheels against the flow,
frantic heave to stay in line
follow on a step behind,
safety in the dining hall
grab a snack and make a call,
platform waiting not in vain
down the track the thundering train.

Squeeze within an unfilled space
tightly bulging travel case,
find a seat with time to spare
not reserved at budget fare,
by the window with a table
stretching legs as far as able,
emails checked play music tracks
open laptop to relax,
speeding landscapes fly outside
changing vista horizon wide,
through the outskirts of the town
the express train is slowing down.
