The Traveller's Fare Poem by Howard Pipe

The Traveller's Fare

A double decker at the bus stop
meet the driver's cheery smile
it always was the way to travel
ride the extra country mile.

Now show your bus pass in the entrance
this is how it is today
a reduced service for the public
can we put our cars away?

The park and ride it runs on empty
bus lane filters hog the lanes
we need a scheme to ease the traffic
extra wagons for the trains.

Gridlocked car queues belch out pollutants
harassed drivers wait their turn
a slow march forward when the lights change
have we got a lot to learn?

Helmeted cyclists face the challenge
cycle lanes are not so slow
they hold their nerve against the lorries
is this the future way to go?
