The Tulip on Capitol Hill
Beneath the marble, beneath the dome,
A little tulip makes its home.
While voices rise and banners wave,
It bends with grace, both still and brave.
Its petals hold the morning light,
A splash of red against the white.
No speech to give, no side to choose,
Just roots below and sky to use.
The city hurries, footsteps pass,
The tulip whispers through the grass:
"Among the noise, among it all,
Even small things rise and call."
And when the evening shadows spill
Across the lawns of Capitol Hill,
The tulip closes, soft and bright—
Keeping a little piece of light.
