The Turning Away Poem by Hamish Keddie

The Turning Away

Turning Away

In the depths -
Where shadows linger,
Where night's cold whispers softly sing,
I felt the pull of darkness' long weary finger.
The weight of sorrow's sombre ring,
Awakens me
Curling around my core like
The demon in me
Luring, laughing, in a sneering accusation directly
At me
My soul
Knows
I must answer the heat of the pull…

Yet in that void,
Beyond the dreamlands
We wander in,
A spark was glowing,
A glimmer of the dawn's sweet light,
With every step,
A hope was growing,
To guide my soul from endless night.

I turned my face from shadows creeping,
And sought the warmth of morning's ray,
Giving me time to shed the darkness dusk
Giving me the courage to leap out
And show you my true colours
Rainbows of smiles
That have been hidden for far too long.
I turn away from the pitch black
Into a walk into the light
I say goodbye
To the sticky gloom, that wants me to stay.

And with footsteps anew
I see my companion
And with your smiling face
And kind eyes
I step from the light
To the pathway of joy.

Just because, because
The past was cruel, a baby monster that grew
Into a Leviathan.
Biting
Gnawing
Chewing
Spits us out into a bath
Of desperation.
Gasping for air
Older eyes
Now knows - that Time's gentle hand needs to caress
The Pain
To eases the monster's mane.
Crucified no more -
Golgotha was the past, my love
We have both cried for his sacrifice
Rivers of tears.

With courage strong, take my hand
Let's walk the path of the righteous
And smile to the fresh smell of friendship
That guides us
On this curious journey.

This path is steep now; trials bending,
Not showing us the way
Yet afraid we are not
A star would gleam,
Alas,
The Star of Bethlehem
A beacon bright, a light unending.
Urges us on.

We no longer need to be afraid.

Dream the Dream now.
Dream anew

We dance along the rainbow path
From tangled woods and valleys shaded,
We rise above the silent fears,
To lands
where skies are never faded,
And the children play
We share in the pristine beauty.

We share a look
And joy streams down like silver tears.
So now we walk with steps unshaken,
Through fields where sun and spirit play,
For in our hearts
A deep longing Fire has awakened.

The sleeping giant in me has awakened to
Show me how to care
Hope dances

I've turned from darkness,
And found my way.
And in this light,
My soul is soaring,
Embracing life with open arms,
No longer bound
By night's imploring,
The black eyes of doom.

I now smile at you
And will ever dwell in
Every day's
Enchanting
Charms.
Your charms.
