The Unicorn Chained Poem by Laurence Overmire

The Unicorn Chained

A free Unicorn
Is a dangerous creature
According to legend

That's why you'll find
In the halls of the Scottish kings
The mythical beast is
Collared 'round the throat
A bright gold chain
Attached

Woven into tapestries
Molded into statuary

A symbol of great healing power
Of innocence, joy, purity
Intelligence and
Sovereign might

A magical animal
Rearing on its haunches
That only the realm of
The Gaels
Could tame

Fantasy
Myth
Legend
Truth

All are intertwined in the story
That is Scotland.
