The Universal Goal Poem by Renu Beri

The Universal Goal

The dark clouds glided menacingly across the sky,
The light ones accompanying them floated merrily by,
The fleecy babies struggled to keep pace,
And reveal the evanescent sun's glowing grace.

The wet towering buildings, the dilapidated huts,
The crowds helter-skelter, the splashing ruts,
The luxuriant green forests silent and grim,
Their inhabitants shrouded in the branches dim.

The darkness highlighted wings gracefully flapping,
Frantically the wind energy they were tapping,
A little white bird with a singular thought,
Its path homeward desperately sought.

Moving towards a goal known to you and me,
Equally clear to the speck in the dark overhead sea,
To complete courageously imperfect life's myriad tests,
Eventually to rest peacefully in one's sheltering nest.
