The Vampires Poem by Lekan Malik

The Vampires

In the dark,
We saw their shadow
In the dim of the light
Getting closer to us.
The vampires!
We trembled.
We heard their foot steps
Like a walking mountain.
Closer and closer, by and by.
Yesterday, they came.
Today, they are with us
To terrorise our neighborhood
Going from door to door
In search of blood.
That is what they need
To survive for just seven days.
We hid under blankets
But still, we slapped ourselves.
And several bites from them
Led to our illness
The following morning.
