The Visitor Poem by Alex Hamilton

The Visitor

Rating: 5.0

My life was happy and with focus.
He was not a welcome guest.
He arrived and raped me
With reassuring words and charm,
Held me, overwhelmed me, in the end released me.

Still, I’m traumatised and weakened
But more prepared.
When he’ll come again I cannot guess
But in a life of known unknowns
His return: it is for certain.
For that I must prepare with joy and anticipation.

He will also visit you,
As he does to everyone.
His face is very changeable.
His methods vary too.

When he calls to take me finally,
All that I request
Is that I am with my beloved husband
When Death reaps me.
