The Void Poem by Laura Cataldo

The Void

I see the void in my boy's eyes
I hear his silent screams
Eyes tearless from refrain
The memory haunts his dreams

You are free from the demons that haunted you
That robbed you of your life
From the pain that wracked your mind
And cut you like a knife

I see the void deep in his heart
Bound in reminiscence chains
You are free but he is not
Last memories still remain

A shot rang out that fateful night
You took your life away
The void in my boy's eyes and heart
I fear forever they will stay

A year ago you left us
With emptiness and strife
When will my boy pick up the pieces
Of his broken life?

It may sound as though I've grown callous
Or that I'm angry with you still

Please know my angel I grieve your loss
with all my heart
And that I always will

I loved you like a daughter
Forever grateful that you taught him
his heart was worth the giving
I plead with you now to guide him back
And return him to the living
