The Void Poem by Naomi Magu

The Void

I've chased the lights, the highs, the sound,
Lost in the beat where I can't be found.
Smoke in my lungs, fire in my veins,
Dancing through nights just to numb the pain.

I've swallowed the thrill, drowned in the haze,
Searching for something to quiet the maze.
Is it the rush or the fall I crave?
Or just a past I can't escape?

Was the emptiness always there inside,
A silent shadow I've tried to hide?
Or did I carve it, piece by piece,
With every hit, with every release?

The music fades, the room grows still,
But nothing I take ever seems to fill.
Maybe the void was never new,
Just waiting for me to see it through.
fading…
