The Water God Calls To His Naiad Poem by Michael Egan

The Water God Calls To His Naiad

Water God to Naiad: Now would be good
Naiad to Water God: Really? We should?
He saith: How I've waited and wanted for thee
Caught glimpses in fragments of old poetry
Saw you once cross the street when our eyes met, recall?
And we knew, we both knew, and our knowledge was all.
Another time: cocktail party and chat
And again there we were with our this and our that
But fluttered we both deep within as we talked
Until in between us some bitch-boss of yours walked.
And a third time we met as two poets alone
And our flesh became flesh and our bone became bone.
And so I still look for thee, poet, lover and friend,
And will so still look for thee, world without end.
