The Way I Used To Love You. Poem by Nia Schexnider

The Way I Used To Love You.

Rating: 5.0

I know you can hear me,
As I cry and beg for mercy,
As I sit and cry alone.
This was supposed to be our home.
*
But you have chosen to desert me,
And leave me begging on my knees,
Baby, my love, oh please!
Forgive me for loving you,
For doing everything I do,
*
To please you, to squeeze you, to tease you.
*
For thinking there was a chance,
For wishing for romance,
I know you can hear me,
And you can hear me well,
Why not kill me?
And release me from this hell?
*
No mercy for my soul,
I've been swallowed whole,
I beg for a sign of affection,
I try to meet your idea of perfection.
I try to be what you want,
But your eyes they taunt me,
Your gaze upon others haunts me,
*
I'll never be your friend,
I wish this were the end,
not of me, not of you,
but of everything I do.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
To lose yourself in love can be such a peaceful, beautiful thing. But when you have given yourself so entirely to one person, they have the ability to truly hurt you.
