The Web Poem by Wakefield Mahon

The Web

Picture
I was caught in a giant spider's web

This web is that which we call life
Riddled with schedules, hurries and strife.
I took a moment, stepped to the side
In search of a place to crawl in and hide

There, I found others, just like me,
Searching for some tranquility
The others smiled and now we're friends,
Together until the very end

While friends may come, and friends may go
One thing, there is, I'm sure I know:
When life is cold and things go wrong,
We'll laugh it off with wine and song

Love I've found and love I'll keep,
Emotions running so very deep.
Power and glory, I'll never need,
The strongest wind, I'll never heed,
As long as friends are by my side,
I'll never have a need to hide.

Yes, life's a tangled web we weave,
And, in this age, Romantics grieve.
So, friends are most important things,
As precious as to a dove her wings.

Don't ask why, just sit a while,
I simply want to see your smile.
Yes, stay a while, come sit with me,
I'll hold you for all eternity.
