The Weight Among Us Poem by ashok jadhav

The Weight Among Us

The city hums with footsteps none recall,
Each face absorbed in purpose of its own.
The laws we trust are written, yet unread,
And mercy waits, neglected at the gates.
The powerful speak in polished, certain tones,
While those who suffer whisper in the dark.
I walk these streets, uncertain where I stand,
Between obedience and what I feel is right.
A choice to intervene could change a life,
Yet risk my place within the structured whole.
And so I linger, watching injustice pass,
Its shadow measured in familiar fear.
Perhaps morality is not a rule,
But how we act when no one counts our deed,
The silent courage that defies neglect,
The small insistence of a human heart
Refusing to bow wholly to the world.
