There are two misprints in the poem - in the second line of the second stanza 'island' should of course be 'inland' and in the fourth stanza last line 'ochres' is misspelt. As A.T.Tolley says in his excellent book about Larkin -MY PROPER GROUND - the poem has a complex movement of feeling and contemplation and I would strongly recommend his book to anybody who responds to Larkin's work
