The Winged Unicorn Poem by Gianfranco Aurilio

The Winged Unicorn

There is a place
where the trees
have plait-shaped
boughs
and the wind
plays the melodies of the wood
among the branches.
The flowers sing in the morning
and throughout the day
the notes float
in the meadows where the grass
forms dew-scented
waterfalls.
It is there
that the winged unicorns live.
They are horses
with silk hooves
and long manes
painted with light.
They have butterfly wings
that glow in the dark
and at night
they come to meet the humans
with childlike hearts
to bring them to a place
where nobody ever cries.
