The World's Diary Poem by Alyssa Rieper

The World's Diary

Foolish and curious, I opened a book
And never thought twice about taking a look
The cover was thick and rimmed with red
Scuffed and chipped and scratched with lead
Sure it was ugly but man it stood out
The pages were light and floated about
When I picked it up, I admired the touch
Of an old world’s diary with tales and such
I opened it up, discovered a place
Of long winded roads and a burning chalk taste
The tales of reality fought in my brain
And darkened a white by leaving a stain
A frantic search I did not find
Any one thing worth wasting my time
Sure it was fun, the writings were bold
But now for some reason it messed with my soul
Just a step closer to what I am not
Becoming the world’s unknowing robot
I shut the book and took a step back
And began to question some prior facts
A person steps up, someone I know
Looks at the book with eyes that glow
I want to say no, that book is cursed
But they will just say that I did it first
