There Is No Me Poem by Indigo Rose Christman

There Is No Me

Rating: 2.5

There is no me
There are only characters
They start out in a mind unknown
With blood of ink
With flesh of smooth paper
There is no me
They lay dormant in the pages
They wait silently for one to come
One who will absorb them
Become them
There is no me
Give them warm blood of deepest red
Give them living flesh and tangible mind
Make them real for an instant
As the story unfolds
There is no me
They steal my body when I let them free
They worm into my mind through the perfect little marks
On the perfect little paper
And then together we live the story
There is no me
Without a cage in my hands
A cage I cannot help but open
Cannot help but turn the key
Cannot help but read the paper, and set them free
There is no me
For combining with these people
These forms of ink and paper
Is like floating with a drug
I must have my fix
There is no me
I cannot survive
Without these puzzle pieces
These artificial people
Real with me, when them I become.
Without them… there is no me.
