There Was A Heavy Rain That Day

Rating: 4.3

There was a heavy rain that day...
The pregnant sky, a mournful grey
Let loose a strong and chilly spray
That hit the leaves in a mad sway.

My skin was cold and water-logged
My tired eyes, tear wet and clogged
By the door I stood, my feet bogged,
Inapt to think, all my mind fogged.

The lashing drops hitting the gears
Hid from my face the falling tears
I was alone and filled with fears
The world ahead was full of sneers.

So many rainy days I saw
I was worn out, my heart was sore
Had I the courage to face more?
Had I the guts to cross that door?

But....
It was too much for me to stay
My heart too broken, in dismay...
There was a heavy rain that day,
The day I chose to walk away.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It was raining heavily today and it reminded me of the day I left a messy marriage behind and decided to walk alone. It was raining that day too...

Poetry has a unique way of communicating feelings. Your poem has really touched me. I could clearly picture you watching the falling rain and with it, your thoughts wandering down the memory lane. When I was reading the last stanza, I could sense that you were reminiscing some bitter memories from the past, and when you said: 'There was a heavy rain that day, The day I chose to walk away.' I was thinking whether you were talking about walking away from home. Your note has confirmed my understanding. In my country, we have lots of rain in the monsoon season, i.e July-September. Our literature is replete with vivid description of the ardent feelings that torrential downpours produce in human minds. If you have time, please read some of my poems and kindly offer a few words as feedback.
