They Kissed Just The Other Day Poem by Don Subba

They Kissed Just The Other Day

He met her just the other day
When the sky was all but gray
He'd been learning how to hide
Every crack he kept inside

He thought the road was done
Thought the hurt had won
Then her name cut through the haze
Like a door in winter rain

She looked at him and knew
That he had lived it too
Two hearts with nowhere left to run
Till they found the same weak sun

They kissed just the other day
(Just the other day)
Pain in sync, then drifted away
(Drifted away)
They found a place to stay
In each other's broken days
And maybe that's enough to say
They don't have to fade away

She met him just the other day
With old bruises, hidden shame
He saw the hurt behind her stare
And he chose to stay right there

No more counting every scar
No more falling too far
Hands held steady in the dark
Like a match guarding a spark

She looked at him and knew
That he had lived it too
Two hearts with nowhere left to run
Till they found the same weak sun

They kissed just the other day
(Just the other day)
Pain in sync, then drifted away
(Drifted away)
They found a place to stay
In each other's broken days
And maybe that's enough to say
They don't have to fade away

If the night comes hard again
If the walls creep in
They'll call each others name
Till the fear lets go its claim

They kissed just the other day
(Just the other day)
Pain in sync, then drifted away
(Drifted away)
They found a place to stay
In each other's broken days
And maybe that's enough to say
They don't have to fade away

They kissed just the other day
(Just the other day)
Gray can soften into gold
When somebody holds your soul
