It Beats Her Name Poem by Don Subba

It Beats Her Name

Does she not see the tears in my eyes?
The pain in my face,
The hurt in my cries.
Does she not notice my head held down?
The shame of it all,
All this sadness I drown.

Does she not feel
The weight I wear?
The quiet ache
Still living there.
My hands reach out,
But she walks by.
And every little wound
Keeps asking why.

Just listen... slowly.
Slowly, it beats her name.
Slowly, it beats her name
In my chest like rain.
Just listen... slowly.
Slowly, it beats her name.
And I fall apart,
Every time she stays the same.

Does she not feel the warmth of my smile?
The deep touch of my love,
The poison in its vial.
Can she even hear
The beat inside my heart?
Just listen... slowly.
Slowly, it beats her name.

I tried to hide it,
I tried to pray.
But every part of me
Gives me away.
If love is blind,
Then why can't she see
All of my breaking,
And the love inside me?

Just listen... slowly.
Slowly, it beats her name.
Slowly, it beats her name
In my chest like rain.
Just listen... slowly.
Slowly, it beats her name.
And I fall apart,
Every time she stays the same.

If I go quiet,
Will she hear it then?
This tired old heart
Will call again.
No grand confession,
No perfect line.
Just the same sad pulse,
Still out of time.

Just listen... slowly.
Slowly, it beats her name.
Slowly, it beats her name
In my chest like rain.
Just listen... slowly.
Slowly, it beats her name.
And I fall apart,
But I still love her the same.
