They Point, They Stare, They Laugh Poem by Kylie Ruxton

They Point, They Stare, They Laugh

They point, they stare, they laugh
Always trying to impress
Desperately
Never good enough
Can never measure up
Disappointed
Shame washes over me
Regret
One step forward, two steps back
So they point, they stare, and they laugh

My failures
Eagerness to please
Dispair wells inside me as I fail once more
Yet again, I do not succeed
When they point, they stare, and they laugh

The invisible faces surround me
Jeering, mocking
Their voices in my head
Taunts in my heart
You will never be good enough
Worthless, pathetic, you will never beat us
I drag myself down, spiraling further into the abyss that is my failure
The black hole in my heart
What becomes of us, they ask
If you finally measure up?
If we are defeated, if you rise above
How will we point, and stare, and laugh?

Banish those voices
Push them away
Rise above the doubts, the shame, the fear
And gain trust, confidence, self belief
Respect for myself
I am better than this
I can win this race, this fight
So they no longer point, or stare, or laugh

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is about my lack of confidence in my karate. I drag myself down a lot because I can't believe that I am actually good at something.
