Things I've Never Told You Poem by Mary McGrath

Things I've Never Told You

Things I've never
Told you...
Those mute gems
Lie in my throat;
Buried treasure
Abandoned
Until the moment
You leave,
They burst
From my mouth;
A jeweled galaxy
Of phrases
Flying
Toward the face
That has gone...

Things I've never
Told you...
As the last sliver
Of your face
Dips into the
Pocket of night,
The silver slipper
Of the moon
Dances
Without a partner,
The stars
Blink back their tears,
And the tide rises
In my eyes.
