Thinking Poem by Laura Carie Dalton

Thinking

As I sit here waiting for you,
I ponder in anticipation.

I wonder if you remembered my birthday.

I wonder if you got me a gift.

Now that you are here,
I can see that you forgot.

We talk some,
And my birthday slips up.

You offer to buy me food,
I decline the offer and thank you.

We study some,
I got one note from you.

When we left,
I was sad.

We went our separate ways.

I made up my mind,
I was not gonna pass up an opportunity like this.

I turned around and ran to you.

I called out your name,
You answer.

I asked if I could have,
A birthday hug.

You said sure.

You don’t know this but,
Your hug made my day.

I didn’t care what else happened.

I got a hug from,
The guy I like.
I just wish I didn’t have to make-up an excuse to call you.

Your hug made my birthday so special.

I didn’t want to let you go.

If I didn’t you would get suspicious.

I let go and left.

I was playing the song ‘Celebration’ in my car all the way home.

Thank you for making my birthday so special.
