This Is For Us. Poem by Feranmi okafor

This Is For Us.

If you're among us who cry in the night,
Who can't just seem to see the light,
Who are scared to fright,
Who just hold in with all their might,
This is for us.

If you're among us who always feel down,
Who don't wear the crown,
Who are always on a frown,
Who don't 'waka' around town,
This is for us.

If you're among us who don't make our hair,
Who don't wear dresses with flare,
Who don't have affairs,
Who don't give the 'princess' stare,
This is for us.

But one day I looked into the mirror,
And took a look at my interior,
And I discovered I wasn't inferior,
So the others weren't superior.

From then on I stood tall,
I decided I would never fall,
The others would make the call.

Now, this is for you that wasn't acknowledged,
This is for you that wasn't encouraged,

This is for us...

This Is For Us.
