This Is Home? Poem by Maluolagi Tima

This Is Home?

The clouds roll in through shadows.
The rain taps against my window.
The thunder rumbles above my head.
The lightning strikes, another one dead.

The sun came out for the first time in days.
There is no wind,
but a small breeze to carry my stress away.
Now the sun is behind the clouds,
little light for those with their menacing doubts.
Now the breeze stops dead,
riding all my deathly thought back into my head.
The wind blows fierce,
in solid rhythmics with the pouring rain.
The thunder beats its heart pounding strain,
as lightning shocks the world's pain.

Torn away from each other like swine going to the butcher's.
Thinking only thoughts to save ourselves,
no brother ever really stood by each other.

Loneliness never felt so dead,
you tried so hard to build yourself up,
and all they did was tear you down.
You can cry all night, every night.
But none of your tears will bring them back,
and you know this for a fact.

Everyday you know people will talk behind your back,
waiting for their right cue of attack.
Everyone is against you,
and walking away is the best you can do.
You've been there and no one will know,
no one will see, that everything they think,
is everything you hope you'll never be.

Words hurt, love kills.
Peace starts every war,
just to break our hearts more and more.
A battle that doesn't shed blood,
but tears that are just as bad.
A field with no sides,
just every man fully mad at every man.
All around us a war is being fought,
another battle lost.
A soul is flown away with a story to tell.
Another will never speak again,
as he is dragged to Hell.
What has our world come to?
What catastrophe we've made...
what kind of 'home' do we live in,
if there is only pain?

Eyes with visions so deep came to the surface,
now looking for a way out in a blind maze.
Ears of those who listened and never spoke out,
are now deaf to those they once but no longer help.
The feel of their touch,
no more can humanity savor their love.
The voice of those who fought for freedom and philosophy,
now trun there back on the ones who trusted them truly.

Our world is being torn apart,
because no one knew how to keep pieces together.
And now all we hold dear hangs off our fear,
as if mocking the fact that we all, now, hate each other.
'The darkness shelters what we hide, the shadows hide all we put aside.'
But the more of this nightmare we try to leave,
the more it will follow and tear at all we once believed.
