Tick, Tock Poem by Hillary Unknown

Tick, Tock

Tick, tock, tick, tock
Goes the clock
I watch in silence
As I recall the violence
That got you here
I remember you lying there as I got near
The tears fall
As I recall
Your best friend
Just went off the deep end
And took you with him
My future now looks so dim
The nurse comes out
And what she tells me makes me shout
You’ll make it
And as long as I’m quiet
I can see you
Then, instead, I do
Something wrong
I burst out the door and run
I can’t bear to see
For what if it changes me
I slow down
And turn around
I can’t leave you
No matter what may be true
I turn and run back
Then the nurse stops me in my tracks
You’re gone
I waited too long
I slide down the wall
And say nothing at all
As my tears start to leak
My future turns bleak
I’m sorry, I cry
I didn’t want you to die
