Tide Poem by Lola Sanchez

Tide

The tide comes in
without the need to explain why

It doesn't write poems
about it's signature line in the wet sand
It just ebbs and flows

The tide doesn't wait for the stars to align
to kiss the sand
It doesn't think about the rice price
or the current political scandal...
it just kisses the sand and leaves.

It delivers crustaceous friends to the beach,
collecting memories in the form of shells
or a long-forgotten towel

The tide rises and takes up space
Unnerved by the vastness of the beach

Dancing back to the ocean
Just as freely and undisturbed
