Tightrope Man Poem by Harlan Lovestone

Tightrope Man

this should have been the event of the year
alas i’ve shed many a tear
my bloods gushing down a drain
hopes are lost no gains
it seems monday rain is all i’ve ever seen
wet postcards and willow trees
wishing you were here
another solemn year

it keeps monday raining on the tightrope man

when i was a child i came to see the circus girl
who smiled at me
she rode on elephants swung in the sky’s
and she never ever told me lies

when the circus came to town
I must have joined the clowns
the trapeze girl became a star
have we drifted away so far?
now I’m up here all alone
with no place to call my own
where it’s monday raining on the tightrope man

I ‘m walking the line
pretending to everyone I’m feeling fine …

this should have been the event of the year
join the crowd shed a tear
my bloods gushing down a drain
from the fall i took no pain
it seems monday rain is all I’ve seen
my life is but a widow’s dream
little girl i fell to earth like an astronaut
now everything’s fading- touch and go

when the circus came to town
I must have joined the clowns
while you became the star
how we’ve drifted away so far
now I’m up here on my own
where I don’t belong
it keeps monday raining on the tightrope man

I’m walking a fragile line
while everyone’s feeling so fine
I never felt this nude
Hanging up at this altitude
so I’ll kick back up here for a while
they say I’m taking a chance
the dropp below is a mile
but i work without a net because that’s my style

i am the tightrope man
i am the tightrope man
I am the tightrope man
I am the tightrope man
i am the tightrope man
i am the tightrope man
I am the tightrope man
I am the tightrope man
i am the tightrope man
i am the tightrope man
I am the tightrope man
I am the tightrope man
i am the tightrope man
i am the tightrope man
I am the tightrope man
I am the tightrope man!

tell me how I made it
when I’m on the other side.
