Time Wasn't On Our Side Poem by Veronica T. C.

Time Wasn't On Our Side

Through the tears that shed down my face,
I'm no longer in the shadows
I'm standing where everyone can see me,
In plain sight,
No back up,
No cover and especially no protection,
Though you're no longer here walking beside me,
I'm scared to take the next step.
The tears keep coming,
The numbness has grown taking over my heart.

I won't lie I miss your presence,
I won't lie I'll miss our conversations.
So much was left unsaid…

The thought of not having you around,
Kills me deep down inside.
Time wasn't on our side.
Nor was it your fault…
I wish I could turn back the hands of time & change your future.
I'm not sure if I can handle the future without you,
However I'll make sure to live it for both of us.

Mom is not the same without you.
Neither are your friends,
That lingering feeling of you pulling up in front of my house doesn't go away,
Vroom Vroom,
I hear the sports cars.

Oh brother, please keep a watchful eye on me.
Fly high, big brother.
I know you'll never be forgotten.
The memory of you will live on forever in my heart.
Though my memories are fading,
I'll always remember being your shadow.
That always followed you around everywhere.
Until we meet again.

I love you big brother.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My brother suddenly passed away due to a motorcycle accident Oct 20,2023... He loved cars, bikes, spending time with his friends & family. My favorite memories are attending the car meets with him, gaming, going out to dinner and just being able to be the annoying little sister. (Writer notes the line 'The memory of you will live on forever in my heart. Though my memories are fading' I have medical issues and sadly I have lost a good amount of my memory and as time goes on it will worsen. However being his shadow will be the one memory ill hold deep in my heart.
