Timeless Tale Poem by Alejandro Torres

Timeless Tale

If I turned back the pages
In the life I write away for you
Pining more with each day
Would I find the marker
The stain of red on porcelain white
That tells me where I went wrong
In loving you
If I could have a picture
Of your face
For everyday that passed
That you knew I loved you
Would you smile
Or would you let your eyes
Do all the talking
For you
Wilting
More and more
When you should be happy
But if I were to see you
After all this time
You thought I hated you
Would there be a frown on your face
And a smile in your eyes
Or would you let
Your mouth do all the talking for you
This time
Faltering
Each and every time
You breathe
Did anyone ever tell you
I never stopped
Did they ever mention
I couldn’t
Did anyone say
I ran away from home
From life
So the world could see you smile
Just for once without hesitation
Did they tell you?
Did they tell you
That’s how much I loved you
I’m sure they didn’t
I mean who would want to hear that
Who would want a love
That grand
Forever
Defying time
Everyday that passes
Cause really
That day I surrendered to you
Ten white roses in purple
I should have died
With each step
Staggering
Away from you
Though my step was sure
My heart was failing
Did anyone ever tell you
The history of this child
The Princess of Artisans
Medicine men and musicians
The Daughter of a Militant
The first born of a poetic mother
Did anyone tell you her symbol
Down to the last day?
It would have been a tale
If they had
But who would want to hear it
Certainly not her forsaker
Certainly not her fall
That child of winter
Never should have survived
Her fallen Goddess
But we’ll tell it now
So you understand
The whole truth
You were too blind
To see
Justly
Like the statue of Nike
Broken
Crumbling she stood in front of you
But you never noticed her tears
Caught in the corners
Waiting
No one would have told you
But the purple was her line
Her world
The great grandchild of royalty
The great grandchild of Europe
No one would have told you
No one cares to know
But those white roses
Dying
Were her nature
Were her thoughts
Simple
No one would have mentioned it
They were her innocence
Her surrender
Her defeat
You concern
What’s wrong
Nothing
You’re lying, I know something’s wrong
No nothing
Breaking
That was my heart
That was why you felt it
But I saw relief
I saw triumph
Shinning
I was dying
Every step of the way out
Did they tell you
That they told me
Of the stories you were telling
Did they tell you I had given up
On love
On life
Did they mention I had given up
On you
Probably not
No never
I mean who would really
Want to hear that kind
Of tale
