Title Poem by M. K. Mattingly

Title

I have been told in the past
Of things that will never last

I have seen them deceive
The sweet eyes of a queen

The lies they tell
thrown down the well

I am haunted by the memories;
Never an ounce of serenity.
The screams, they echo in my dreams
As one by one the souls slowly sink,

Oh, the sorrow; Oh, the tears
Carried on the start of years

The beating of hearts are now long gone.
The lies they told, a forgotten song.

Down in the grave, lies their fate;
Buried at the end of day.

Scattered, shattered, battered, and lost,
We grieve the winter's last great frost.
Scattered, shattered, and battered with death,
The winter breathes its last great breath.
