To A Russian Blue With Yellow Eyes Poem by Bill Grace

To A Russian Blue With Yellow Eyes

You lay your head upon my foot,
tell me I am accepted.
This poet has always been
a little less genetically engineered
perhaps this is why
I can relate to cats.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Our dog was adopted by a Russian Blue cat. This prompted learning about them and a capacity for genetic defect in some of this breed. A RB should not have yellow eyes and, according to a popular book examined when this was written, is an example of genetic defect in this breed. The book was found on a table in Sam's Club.
