To Alice Poem by Noah Body

To Alice

I'm never there
When you need me to be
But that doesn't mean
You don't matter to me

A bigger heart
Can nowhere be found
One whose capacity for love
Simply cannot be bound

So undeserving am I
Of your slightest attention
My very name on your lips
Doesn't deserve a mention

I can never make up
For all the times that I failed
But please don't tell me
That this ship has sailed

Now when you're shaking
And full of such fear
I promise you this
This time I'll be there

Too little too late
This is probably true
But I have to try
I gave my heart to you

So let me cradle your heart
And hug and stroke it
I'm sorry I ever
So much as broke it

Roses are red
And violets are blue
I will never let
Anything happen to you
