To Be Kind Poem by Paul Reed

To Be Kind

I want to make a little mark upon this earth

To leave a memory behind

Of the days when I breathed the air

And promised to be kind

To have more than vapour dissipate

And encircling smoke intern

To leave something eternal behind

Beyond the flesh that burns

Something that says that this was me

Different to any other man

Not a leader or a hero

Or a global plan

But me- just me, like you

Someone who really tried to find

A meaning in this lonely life

And who promised to be kind.
