To Be Or Not To Be Poem by Dr. Harry Hamburger

To Be Or Not To Be

When your eyes are gone
will you still be able to see
when your ears are closed
can you hear a falling tree

When your skin rots off
will you still be able to feel
if remove brain from head
will world cease to be real

If a drop of water
were to fall into the ocean
would it continue to exist
or become one filled with devotion

Think will see your family
or virgins laying on a bed
when are dead in the end
will just be light there instead

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
'If I were to remove your cerebral cortex, you would no longer know or remember who you are. Why in the would you think that consciousness and identity which resides in the brain, would still be present after the brain and body have died. Your animating soul in part of the G-dly infinite energy, and not dependent on your inter-neural connections, experiences, or memories. Is there a creator greater than all of us, of course! However, it is all primitive foolishness to imagine that our life will continue after death, as it has during our limited life span. So what is the point of my poem and discussion? Be content with the gift of life and consciousness you have been given. Treasure it, do good with it, and live it in a holy manner to the fullest while you are here. There will be something that remains after YOU are gone, but it will no longer be YOU! '
