To Bravely Split Poem by Ananta Madhavan

To Bravely Split

"To see a World in a Grain of sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour".
William Blake (1757-1827) .
Auguries of Innocence.

"To boldly go where no man has gone before".
Lead announcement for the TV serial
of science fiction adventures, BBC,1970.

"To-be or not to-be? "
If that is a test question,
Is it right to split that idiom

Of a verb in the ‘infinitive'?
William Shakespeare chose to-boldly-be
Existentially alive and wrote ‘Hamlet'.

Do it dramatically
Or even grammatically,
As allowed by modern English usage;

Even Nobel laureate Winston Churchill,
Scorned the critic of his ending
A sentence with a preposition.

With commonsense contumely
He replied, "This is the nonsense
Up with which I shall not put."

The references I have cited and modern English usage have
fascinated me for decades. Hope readers can connect with

3/5. Blake's mystic poems and sympathy for all creatures are worthy of revival.
